This grant was established in 1996 by Dr John Serry in memory of Dr Paul Baker. The scholarship was introduced to assist rural Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery students with relocation and living-away-from-home expenses. The value and number offered varies depending on funding.

This scholarship has contributed to my achievement of publishing my first paper as well as hosting lectures. These experiences will help as I work towards becoming a medical practitioner and tutor in future. I've also been able to have a better work-life balance and spend the time mentoring.

Am I eligible?

You must be one of the following:

  • An Australian citizen
  • A New Zealand citizen
  • Australian permanent resident
  • Australian humanitarian visa holder

You must meet the following criteria:

  • Commencing or continuing Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine* full-time undergraduate student at a Monash campus in Australia.
  • Have a low income.
  • From a regional or remote area.

* Including the graduate entry Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine at Monash Gippsland.
