Today, 50% of the world’s 7 billion people live in cities; by 2050, this will rise to 70%.

As urbanisation will be the defining trend over the next several decades, cities, in both developing and developed countries, face many of the world’s biggest sustainable development challenges, including extreme poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation. Addressing these  challenges  in  the urban context  represents a major opportunity for impact.

In this lecture, renowned global cities expert Aromar Revi outlines how the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in particular Goal 11 to “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”, can help harness the dynamism of cities towards solving the worlds  sustainable  development challenges.
