Sporting clubs history
Sport has been played at Monash since the Clayton campus welcomed its first students in 1961.
In 1961 the Monash University Sports Association was formed. At the same time, several clubs began: Australian Rules Football (Monash Blues), Cricket, Field Hockey and Judo.
Archives of early photographs
The University Archives hold photos from the early 1960s. They show the No. 1 Sports Oval as one of the first constructions on the campus. Here's a small selection of early sports photos:
- Cricket 1961: Vice-Chancellor’s XI versus students
- Australian Rules 1963: Intervarsity carnival
- Australian Rules 1965: Monash Blues
- Athletics 1968: Club members
