First professor of computer science
Christopher Wallace earned his PhD in Experimental Physics at the University of Sydney. During his doctoral work he was involved in building several early computers to aid his analyses.
Employed by Sydney after his graduation, he was not only involved in teaching some of the university’s first computing courses, but was sent to Illinois and to the UK to help build other new computer systems. He worked hard to build up his teaching staff and course offerings, and the courses proved popular with students.
