A green University
29 June 2005
Monash makes the move towards more sustainable policies, from switching to 100% recycled paper at the Matheson Library to going plastic bag-free on campus.
The University pledged to continue to pioneer sustainable strategies including developing a solar panel network to reduce its carbon footprint. The 416 solar panels are capable of generating about 100,000 kWh of electricity annually – enough to power 25 average-sized Australian homes - and deemed to be that largest solar power network of any Australian university.
The University’s environmental commitment is further cemented with the development of Green Star buildings in 2015, which incorporate water harvesting and storage facilities, use recycled water and forest stewardship council certified (FSC) timbers.
