MICCN Researcher named Monash Postgraduate Association Supervisor of the Year 2018
A nomination by his students has led to A/Prof Adrian Carter taking out the title, Supervisor of the Year 2018!
Only one academic across the whole of Monash University receives this award each year, making this a remarkable achievement for A/Prof Carter and a significant recognition of his work.
A/Prof Carter is an NHMRC Career Development Fellow and Head, Neuroscience and Society Group at MICCN. He is also Director, Neuroethics Program, Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Integrative Brain Function, and Co-Chairs the Australian Brain Alliance Neuroethics and Responsible Research and Innovation Committee, Australian Academy of Science. His research examines the impact of neuroscience on our understanding and treatment of addiction, mental illness and neurological disorders, including: agency, identity, moral responsibility, privacy, stigma and discrimination, the use of coercion and the capacity for voluntary control of behaviours; and the use of emerging technologies such as brain stimulation, brain computer interfaces, wearables and neuroimaging, to treat mental illness.
He has received awards for excellence in research, has over 140 publications, and has also been an advisor to the World Health Organization, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, the Australian Ministerial Council on Drugs Strategy and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

A/Prof Carter has been a mentor and inspiration to several MICCN PhD students and postdocs, and is extremely deserving of this award! We congratulate him on this accomplishment and thank him for all of his efforts to date.
Finalists for this award also included MICCN Research Director, Prof Mark Bellgrove, and Prof Nellie Georgiou-Karistianis, Associate Dean, Graduate Research. We extend our congratulations to both Professors on this amazing feat.
