About the exhibition
Curated by Grazia Gunn, this touring exhibition featured selected works from the Chandler Coventry Collection and sought to elucidate new developments in art from the past decade. Described by Patrick McCaughey as ‘the epitome of the adventurous private collector’, Chandler Coventry (1924-1999) had been involved in ‘post painterly’ and post-object art projects. He was connected with Central Street Gallery in Sydney from 1967 to 1970, and later opened his own gallery, displaying and lending works from his collection. The exhibition focused on the Sydney painting scene of the 1960s and 1970s, accompanied by works on paper by Australian and international artists.
