About the exhibition
Directions Now: The Mitchelton Print Exhibition1982 presented a selection of prints, most of which were made within a year of the exhibition by artists living and working in Victoria. The exhibition introduced a new generation of printmakers, and included mostly works not shown previously. The survey included diverse techniques such as woodcut, etching, mezzotint and screenprinting. Similarly, the exhibition held to no distinct theme, presenting, instead, a range of enquiries: non-representational and formalist works; depictions of Javanese landscapes; symbols drawn from metaphysics; references to popular culture and feminism, as well as to world historical events, such as French eighteenth-century regicide.

This exhibition was assembled by the Directors of the Benalla Art Gallery and the Shepparton Arts Centre, Vic.; sponsored by Mitchelton Vintners Pty. Ltd.; and assisted by the Victorian Ministry for the Arts.
