About the exhibition
This was the first-ever retrospective exhibition of the Melbourne-based painter Robert Hunter (1947–2014), featuring thirty-six works that offered audiences a rare opportunity to appreciate the breadth and depth of the artist’s enduring commitment to a singular aesthetic.

The exhibition surveyed the first twenty-two years of Hunter’s enigmatic practice, tracing an evolving dialogue between this key exponent of late modernist abstraction in contemporary Australian art and the successive waves of avant-garde movements—from hard-edge painting through to Minimalism, Post-minimalism and Conceptual art.
