About the exhibition
This exhibition showcased works acquired for the Monash University Collection over the preceding seven years—a period of significant growth following the establishment of the Monash Art Foundation.

A key focus was the work of emerging artists addressing contemporary issues of identity, gender and nationality, including Neil Emmerson, Gui Nan Feng and Tracey Moffatt. The exhibition also reflected retrospective acquisitions that enhanced the Collection’s coherence by highlighting major developments in Australian art over the past two decades. These included early works by senior artists such as Elizabeth Gower, Inge King and Robert Owen.

The Collection’s commitment to in-depth collecting of works by influential figures in Australian contemporary art was represented through a selection of works by the late conceptual artist Ian Burn and a suite of paintings from Susan Norrie’s Shudder series, 1994–95.
