About the exhibition
Impact presented the diverse practices of art students from Monash University’s Faculty of Art and Design, encompassing work from the Caulfield, Peninsula and Gippsland campuses. Reflecting the aspirations, beliefs and concerns of a new generation of artists, the exhibition demonstrated the breadth of disciplines taught across the faculty, including painting, sculpture, installation, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, glass, video, tapestry, metalsmithing and jewellery.
Curated by Malcolm Bywaters, Lecturer in Professional Practice, the exhibition was selected through an application process open to students across all three campuses.
A highlight of the exhibition was Michael Doolan's User Friendly, 1998—a series of small-scale ceramic sculptures based on children's toys, including the iconic Kewpie Doll.
