About the exhibition
The Expanded Field presented large-scale installation works by four Australian artists from the Monash University Collection, each inviting the viewer into a heightened awareness of their own performative role. Emerging from traditions of sculpture, environments, happenings and theatre, the exhibition reflected how installation art (an emergent term of the 1990s) uses diverse materials and techniques to position the gallery as a site of experience.

Peter Cripps and Aleks Danko examined the physical and conceptual relationships between objects and viewers, while Kate Beynon and Neil Emmerson, working across printmaking and craft-based practices, explored the symbolic power of mythology and propaganda.
