About the exhibition
Organised around the concept of ‘spacecraft’—referring equally to UFOs and NASA craft, as well as to nomadic and portable architecture—the objects in this exhibition were gathered from a range of disciplines and contexts. Featuring artists who worked with jewellery, ceramics, glass, industrial design, architecture and photography, Spacecraft 0701, with its pursuit of wonder and curiosity, brought something of the Wunderkammer spirit to the gallery. Guest curator and exhibition designer Suzie Attiwill was interested in the relationship each object had with the surrounding space when it was sited in the museum and encountered by audiences, noting that ‘the conjunction between object, space and viewer produces an encounter with space in unexpected ways’.
