About the exhibition
Featuring the work of five artists from the Monash University Collection, Energy Fields focused on the nature of installation art and the important role played by the viewer’s perception and experience of the work. Works by key figures in the emergence of conceptual and installation practices such as Peter Cripps and Aleks Danko were included, as well as a collaborative work by Mike Parr and John Nixon, Brown/Black (The Schizophrenic Arm), 1989—a physically confronting exploration of form and perception. Striking a different tone, Kate Beynon’s series Li Ji (Li Ji),1996, utilised craft techniques, Chinese calligraphy and sound to present ancient myths of heroic women.
