About the exhibition
The Indonesian artist collective Taring Padi formed in Yogyakarta in 1998, shortly after the resignation of President Suharto made way for reform and the opening of new possibilities for art and social practice in Indonesia. Curated by guest curators Heidi Arbuckle and Stuart Koop, the exhibition presented banners, posters, wayang (protest puppets), leaflets and video footage—material remnants of actions and discussions originally disseminated on the streets. Three members of Taring Padi, Yustoni Volunteero, Hestu Ardiyanto and Aris Prabawa, travelled to Melbourne with the exhibition.
