About the exhibition
The first major survey of artist Constanze Zikos, this exhibition focused on the interconnections between works made over the previous decade and new  developments. The title Anathematic, meaning ‘beside the theme’, was chosen by the artist in reference to the way in which  themes may weave in and out of his practice, recurring at times but lateral in approach . Known for colourful and vibrant works full of repeating rhythmic patterns and references to ornamentation, Zikos’s works of this period utilised Perspex, Laminex, reflective metal rings, as well as lush fabrics like velvet, satin and faux fur. While experimenting with the seductive surfaces of materials, Zikos also took a broad approach to iconography and cultural touchpoints, mixing classical Greek emblems and modern design, geometric abstraction and kitsch decoration.
