Found Sound: LOUD+SOFT and Sarah Byrne

Taking the LP record and its contents as a found object, LOUD+SOFT (Julian Day and Luke Jaaniste) present their ongoing project Turning The Tables On … Dispersed over multiple portable turntables, the records create an unexpected and immersive sound environment.

Sarah Byrne's semi-live VHS scratch performances draw on the now inevitably vintage content of found videocassettes that she degrades and manipulates with an emphasis on the sonic texture of her samples.

Found Sound

In parallel to the exhibition Reinventing the Wheel: The Readymade Century, MUMA presents a series of live performances in the museum by Australian musicians and sound artists. Inspired by the seminal 'silent piece' by John Cage, 4'33" 1952—footage of which is included in the exhibition—Found Sound picks out some of contemporary music's synergies with the impact of the readymade within visual art.
