In Kathy Barry’s geometric, optical watercolours, energy is equated with the intelligence that resides in all things, where the authorial impact of her work is reduced in correspondence with the energy that helps create it. These watercolours function as encoded diagrams that address energy healing and the possibility of multidimensional reality.

Kathy Barry will discuss her work in Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits, with Dr Jan Bryant, Senior Lecturer, MADA, Monash Art Design and Architecture.

Kathy Barry is an Auckland-based artist with a practice founded in drawing. In 2012 she was the 17th McCahon House artist-in-residence, which was followed with a residency at the Vermont Studio Center in the United States. Her work is represented by Bowen Galleries in Wellington, and has been exhibited in artist’s project spaces and public galleries across New Zealand.
