Join us for a discussion between Taungurung artist Steven Rhall and writer and educator Tristen Harwood (Ngalakgan) on the nature of institutional bureaucracy and power in relation to First Nations identified positions, and ideas of surveillance, value and purpose.

This program takes place in conjunction with the exhibition Steven Rhall and Sung Tieu: Statecraft, MUMA, 3 February – 23 March 2024.

Tristen Harwood (Ngalakgan) is a writer, educator, and recalcitrant.

Steven Rhall is a Taungurung artist based on Birrarung-ga land. His multidisciplinary practice explores representation and societal narratives, particularly in spaces of First Nations art production, presentation and encounter. He has recently exhibited at Gertrude Contemporary (2023); West Space (2023); Incinerator Gallery (2023); ACMI (2022–23); Edinburgh Gardens (2022); and Royal Botanic Gardens (2022)—all on Birrarung-ga land—and at the Kyneton Contemporary Art Triennial, Vic. (2022). A current Gertrude Studios Artist, he is represented by MARS Gallery, Birrarung-ga land.
