Our Graduate Certificate of Business gives you the chance to boost your skills or even take your career in a new direction and explore a variety of business areas, all without giving up your day job.

We’ve curated a selection of units around contemporary business themes for you to explore. Alternatively, you can curate your own experience and select four units from the wide range of units offered by Monash Business School. If you choose to do this full time, you can complete the program in just six months.

Most units are offered outside business hours, off-campus or in block mode - so you can balance your work and study. As you’ll be studying master’s level units, a Graduate Certificate of Business can also lead to a master’s degree, if you decide you want to take your studies further.

Business themes

  • Sustainability

    Discover what goes into creating and maintaining sustainable businesses. From staying compliant by following the best corporate governance practices, to reducing waste in the supply chain and incorporating environmental sustainability, you’ll learn how to improve efficiency in a range of business contexts.

  • Marketing Communication

    Delve into the principles and practices of contemporary marketing to deliver successful strategies and tactics. Understand consumer behaviour and the important role of strategic brand management to deliver customer value. You’ll also develop your skills in the latest digital marketing strategies and learn to use social media effectively.

  • Accounting in Business

    Gain insight into the way accounting impacts a business – from the practicalities of working with financial statements and reporting, to influencing management decisions at every level. This specialisation also gives you a chance to develop your understanding of business law and Australia’s regulatory framework.

  • International Trade

    Deepen your understanding of how global markets work – look at the relationship between international and municipal law and the ins and outs of international trade. You’ll also explore the role of international institutions in global governance and learn what goes into formulating, negotiating and implementing trade policies.

  • Human Resources

    The choice is yours. Focus on Human Resources from - designing jobs and creating incentives, to understanding the dynamics of an employment relationship and managing change effectively. Alternatively, you can delve into Human Resources Management to learn what goes into employing people successfully, managing issues like discrimination, equal opportunity and health and safety in different workplaces.

  • Managing the Supply Chain

    Strengthen and extend your existing management skills across a range of business operations. Learn to manage complex supply chains, create more sustainable systems and craft effective strategies – all while increasing value for organisations and their customers. You’ll also explore some of the current challenges facing managers in today’s dynamic business environment.

  • Marketing Management

    Study the theories and principles behind today’s marketing practices and explore how they’re applied in a range of business contexts. You’ll look at different components of successful branding, from developing a brand to seeing how it’s implemented, marketed and augmented over time. You’ll also cover the role of innovation in business and how it can be better targeted to customers.

  • Project Management

    Learn how to manage projects and programs across multiple sectors through critically analysing complex problems, identifying adaptive approaches and using innovative practices. You'll build a network of like-minded colleagues while you work on innovative industry projects and gain hands-on project leadership experience in a range of areas.

  • Contemporary Leadership

You’ll look closely at human behaviour, group dynamics, organisational culture and development as well as individual performance – and learn to navigate some of the issues that are challenging traditional leadership styles.

  • Law and responsible business

    Explore some of the ethical and legal issues facing organisations around the world and learn to navigate them effectively. You’ll develop an appreciation for corporate governance on a global scale and learn to apply moral reasoning to business problems. You’ll also build your negotiation skills in relation to a range of topical issues.

  • Risk Management

    Understand the role of risk – how it evolves, how to identify it and how to manage it. You’ll learn about the Australian Risk Management Standard and explore risk in different business contexts, including treasury management, financial markets and the stock market. You’ll gain practical skills and look at industry-based case studies to deepen your understanding.

  • Corporate Governance

    Develop your understanding of corporate governance practices in Australia and around the world. Through these units of work, you’ll study some of the regulatory, ethical and compliance issues facing businesses today – and learn how they apply to the day-to-day operations of an organisation.
