Rajath (Raj) Sindia

I am interested in the ways that engineering and architecture can become a unified collaboration in sustainable design. A key area of this I am pursuing is Design for disassembly - creatively in my architecture studio, and analytically through my engineering Final Year Project. I wish for the work that I do to be a net-positive to the immediate community and to world as a whole and will always be open to ways I can fulfill this desire.

DFD Timber Factory

This project is a factory that produces CLT building components designed for disassembly (DFD). These components are used to construct houses nearby to create a small village, and due to the nature of the joins, they can be disassembled and used elsewhere.
The factory itself is also made from these components, and is a retrofit construction, allowing it to be dismantled and set up elsewhere with minimal construction waste production.
This particular design connects to a pair of out-of-service hangars at RAAF Point Cook.

The DFD joins have been designed from 5 base connection methods.

CLT Factory Site Plan and Layout

Taking a CLT factory in Canada as a starting point and a typical CLT factory layout, the designed factory has been sited at the South West corner of the RAAF base. This maximises connections to transport while maintaining access to the agroforestry plantations to the North that will supply the factory.
The Point Cook RAAF base was chosen due to its potential for ground remediation and proximity to current urban growth regions.
