Redesign of the Facade

This project is about using aggregation to redesign the facade of the commercial lower level. It aims to revitalise the lane space and improve the urban porosity for the economy, bringing attention to the damaging heritage building in the laneway for preservation.
By expanding the existing Cafe, Jewellery store at the north of the alley to the laneway side to attract people from Royal Arcade, adding a new loading bay at the south of the alley for the bins storage, and creating a new laneway connected to Block Arcade at the south. The site is Balcombe PL, which is a forgotten laneway only occupied by bins among the heritage buildings and the busy Block Arcade.

Redesign of the Facade: part 2

The site is Balcombe PL, which is a forgotten laneway only occupied by bins among the heritage buildings and the busy Block Arcade. The historical buildings by this lane are weathering and damaging, perhaps due to the lack of public attention.
According to the observation from porosity mapping, manipulating the light, especially the powerful sunlight by the facade, can work for different programs, which can improve the urban porosity by increasing the pedestrian access volume.
For example, the cafe, bar, and loading bay prefer a darker space with well-shading quality while the Jewellry store needs a better light condition.
