Amy Madison

Hi, I’m Amy! I’m a Communication Designer who specialises in Motion Graphics and Illustration, I love to work on projects that explore conceptual design thinking and generate communication using fun and bold design. My project ‘It’s more than…’, featured below, looks at breaking down and rebuilding societies understanding of OCD. This campaign is motivated by trying to explain with feeling, rather than just displaying fact, aiming to connect with the audience through emotion and perception to generate understanding.

It’s More Than: Contamination Station Opening

This is an exert from the campaigns ‘Contamination Station’ video, it is one of five short videos that explore the main ways OCD manifests. These videos aim to give the viewer a deeper understanding of the experience of OCD to educate through perception. The full version of the video can be accessed through the Vimeo link in the description or on my website.

It’s More Than: Contamination Station Closing

This video focus’ on contamination anxiety, a common symptom of OCD. The video uses warped realities to demonstrate how the world can be experienced by OCD sufferers, how something as harmless as a spilt drink on a train can feel as dangerous as acid, or how an unidentifiable spot can cause major anxiety experienced both emotionally and physically.

It’s More Than: Campaign Poster

The Campaign poster has been designed to spread awareness about common OCD misconceptions, tying in the common theme of all the campaign outcomes, ‘It’s More than’. While the collection of short videos conveys this message through experience and conceptually based design, the campaign poster brings the message into an informative realm allowing greater factual understanding.

It’s More Than: Campaign Stickers

The stickers aim to both promote the campaign and generate conversation, getting the audience to question their understanding of OCD. If the audience wishes to engage further, the campaign name is included within the phrases used in the design, making it easy to locate the short videos online and sequentially learn more about the campaign.

It’s More Than: Design Research Kit Activities

Prior to the designing of the campaign, design research into the area was first conducted. This research consisted of four activities, optimised to gain data regarding peoples understanding of OCD and how people of varied levels of mental wellness experience anxiety.

It’s More Than: Design Research Kit Materials

The most rewarding result gained from the design research kit was the suggestion that anxiety is felt differently physically for people with and without OCD but is still connected. This generated the direction of the campaign, to educate not through fact alone, but to demonstrate the feelings behind the facts.
