The inspiration behind Real Talk comes from research into people’s feelings of pressure when it comes to work as well as the lack of time had for their mental health. The idea of Real Talk is to seamlessly have these conversations with our friends and co-workers year-round, making them more natural and not feeling uncomfortable to speak up.

Real Talk aims to deliver a series of prompts, questions and statements that will encourage people to think more deeply about their mental health, and the pressures they are putting on themselves.

Real Talk

Design Research Kit

The design research kit was used as a way to conduct research surrounding people’s self-care, work, and mental habits. It was important that the kit was non-invasive, anonymous, and allowed for open ended answers as well as a wide range of responses. Noting from this came issues with workplace overwork, and lack of time for themselves.

Poster Series

The series of posters would be situated in high contact areas in workplaces and public places like train stations and bus stops. The idea is for the posters to prompt further thinking, ask questions and get people thinking about their own choices as well as looking out for mates.

Badges

The idea of the badges is for people in workplaces can subtly identify by colour and a small arrow how they are feeling. People can then identify the people that may need a chat or some extra care on that day. Real Talk is about getting people talking, in a non-invasive and intimidating way, but making it a natural part of our everyday lives.

Social Media

Real Talk’s social presence will be important in spreading the message to all people. Whilst it will be a platform where tips, conversation starters and ideas can be shared it may also be a place for people to visit when they are struggling. Real Talk’s social media will be a platform to spread awareness and get people to get Real and Talk.
