Grace Brown

My name is Grace Brown, I'm a communication design student, specialising in identity, print, social media content creation and digital design. This folio task asked us to choose a social issue that we wanted to create a campaign for. I chose was helping people with down syndrome find jobs. From my initial research, I found that 34% of those with down syndrome are unemployed and 3 of 5 businesses are understaffed since the end of covid. I saw I need to create a campaign to help people with down syndrome find employment and matching them with businesses are still struggling to find employees. Additionally, using this platform to help break stigmas surrounding down syndrome.

Utilise the Underutilised - Desktop Website

The website was the primary outcome to this project, as it became the most effective way to explore the issue and provide a solution. The website has a home page along with 5 other pages that explore the issue further. The website has the functionality for those with down syndrome to upload resumes, those looking for employees to list a job and also a place to express interest to join helping the cause.

Utilise the Underutilised - Poster

For this outcome, the choice of a poster was easy. As the campaign needed to be visible to the public and easily noticeable. I created this first by doing the designs in illustrator and converting that into a photoshop mockup to show the poster in context. The purpose for the poster being the size that it is and being on the side of the road is so that people commuting from work will be able to see the website handle when they pass by.

Utilise the Underutilised - Billboard

For this outcome, the choice of a billboard was also easy. As the campaign needed to be visible to the public and easily noticeable. I created this first by doing the designs in illustrator and converting that into a photoshop mockup to show the poster in context. The purpose for the billboard being the size that it is so that people commuting to and from work will be able to see the website handle when they drive by. The design is also simple with little information as people driving need to just take away key information.

'THE VIDEO'

"This video was created to diversify the ideas I was exploring, focusing on commercials and how the industry advertises beauty to us. It goes through, diet fads, the evolution of the perfect face, products that promise beauty and more. Overall it is an overwhelming barrage of images that give a snapshot of how these high standards for women haven’t improved over the years, they have just adapted."
