Melanoma, a type of skin cancer that develops in skin cells called melanocytes, is projected to be the third most common cancer in Australia. Despite its prevalence, individuals can feel uncertain and lack confidence to accurately identify melanoma symptoms. In response, I have designed ‘SPOT,’ a home self-monitoring detection device capturing and recording concerning moles. Assisted by a removable wall mount and digital application, the user is able to compare moles easily at any time, even on difficult to reach places on the body.

Handheld Use

Handheld melanoma screening device, empowering individuals to capture moles up close and record data with a simple push of a button.

SPOT

With ‘SPOT’, visual data collection begins before the patient steps into the clinic, encouraging clear conversation and addressing specific concerns with health care professionals.

Context

The design can be used in the comfort of the home environment, minimising the stress and vulnerability that can be experienced during clinical mole screening.

Wall Mount

Removable wall mount permits individuals to capture difficult to reach moles, such as on the back. The integrated LED lighting aids to capture clear and reliable images.

Form

The smooth, ovular form ergonomically fits into the palm of the hand.

Digital Application

Compatible on all devices, ‘SPOT App’ allows the user to review images and address concerns with health care professionals.
