Please touch. Textural, sculptural textiles soothe and comfort with familiar quilting and cushion-like forms. Soft squishy stockings contrast pin-tucks and pleats, pairing dressmaking techniques with freeform, instinctual draping, these stretched works explore the body, clothing, feminine craft and the concept of fine art. Framed within the physical restraints of the stretched canvas, the work visually rebels against classical rigidity through its materiality and dimensional protrusion. Overflowing around the edges and tucked away out of sight, with visible stitches and imperfections, the work is both a reflection, and a critique of cultural expectations of a woman and of an artist.
