My artworks rely on language and its biting subtext. I have represented idealised, awkward, and personalised outcomes from being an art student. The materiality, playful colours, and exaggeration of shape contrast the earnest statements. It leaves audiences questioning the stance of the artist.
The works are currently staged on partitions to evoke a set-like reference. However, they can be incorporated onto an existing wall. These large-scale installations have been translated from my drawings.
Working with felt stuffed letters enhance feelings of nostalgia to associate with children and their raw perspectives. Simultaneously, the material softens the provocative bluntness of the work.
In the spirit of reconciliation Monash University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
