Emily Humble

My art focuses on capturing happy moments in my life as I remember them. I record the beauty in the small, generally ‘insignificant’ things from different phases of my life that have stood out in my memory. My work highlights the true intense meaning and power that these small things hold, and uses them to tell a story of personal growth. Using colour and light, I communicate everyday life in my paintings through a lens of positivity, and to generate strong emotional connections between the work and the viewer. My practice has evolved to be a form of healing and an expression of gratitude towards, and acknowledgement of, the beauty that exists in the world, and in my own life.

Collecting Life- Installation View

A series of eight paintings, acrylic paint on canvas and wooden board.

'Collecting Life' is a series of works that depict a story of personal growth and character development. These paintings stem from a place of nostalgia and healing, and reveal significant memories from my life that evoke peace, comfort and happiness.

Memories have layers of complexity and feelings attached to them, and my art reflects the minor aspects that stand out in my memories of key moments in my growth as a person. The background is often lacking in detail, or not there at all, as I focus on exactly the happy features of the moment, letting go of the noise of the time.
