Vagabond's Kowloon
In 2012, the historical Palace Theatre was sold to a China-based developer with plans to renovate the site for a multistory hotel. However, controversy had enveloped the entire site, as local music and theatre communities stood for the mistreatment of the palace's destruction.
Vagabond’s Kowloon entails the protagonist of Chungking Express, He Qiwu, re-imagined as a back-of-house at the reimagined Palace Theatre. A character journey depicting a story in which the love-sullied former cop is now employed in the renewed theatre—a wanderer organically navigating his way through the intense and chaotic nature of theatre and coming out with new warmth and ambition by the end of his first day.
