Hi! I'm Emma. I am a multi-disciplinary designer with a passion for human centred design and critical thinking. As a marketing and communication design student, I enjoy delving into people’s problems finding solutions to them. I tend to use my UX and UI skills in all kinds of projects and have found photography, illustration and clever copywriting beneficial in elevating my work.
My final project this year ‘Let’s talk about equity baby’ is a campaign promoting equal division of household labour in partnerships as women on average, do 2 and half times more unpaid labour than men.
Let's talk about equity baby
The project 'Let's talk about equity baby' surrounds challenging gender norms and creating equal division of labour in partnerships to close the gender unpaid labour gap. The project includes a card game that helps partners discover if they are equitable or not, a poster series to spark conversion and interest and a website that allows people to donate, shop and learn.
Let's talk about equity baby - Card game
The 'Let's talk about equity baby' card game allows partners to discuss and see if they are equitable in their own home. The old fashioned 1950s housewife imagery, in a card game promoting equity, is used to remind the audience that this 'housewife' idea is outdated and sexist.
Let's talk about equity baby' - Poster series
Throughout this project thought provoking imagery and copy are used to spark conversation and challenge old fashioned gender norms. The poster series alludes to the idea that equitable couples are more intimate to draw people in whilst also informing the audience with information surrounding gender gaps.
'Let's talk about equity baby' - Website'
"The 'Let's talk about equity baby' website is place to shop, donate and learn. I used figma to create the design and Jitter to create this animation. This is the link to my figma prototype.
The design research kit included riddles and tasks to learn more about gender stereotypes and the division of unpaid labour in the home.
The results of the DRK supported the secondary research I did that looked at the unpaid labour gap globally. As well as collecting data the DRK provided information to the participant about the global gender unpaid labour gap, and gave them insight to how much labour they do during a week, potentially prompting a participant to help out with more housework.
