Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

Hi, I’m Georgina and I am a design student at Monash University. I have a strong passion for design with a particular focus on illustration, mixed media, and logo design. A unique blend of hand drawn paintings and digital techniques allows me to bring a distinct and artistic touch to my design work. ‘Just Breathe’ is my final design outcome that explores why individuals procrastinate. The design delves into how focus and motivation differs between right-brain and left-brain thinkers. Ultimately the designs work in harmony to create awareness for the event as well as offering take home bags with critically designed outcomes.

Just Breathe - Journal

This journal is the primary outcome for the ‘Just Breathe’ campaign. This design approach recognises that left-brain dominant individuals are often stimulated by analytical data and logical structures, while right-brain thinkers are more inspired by expressive and creative elements. These fundamental distinctions serve as the foundation for the design direction. Printed on 300gsm envirocare and perfect bound to seamlessly integrate elements of wellness and health into the printing process. The colour scheme remains minimal, and a sans-serif font is employed to achieve a contemporary aesthetic, aligning with the message of embracing modern practices.

Just Breathe - Poster Design

I designed a poster series which formed part of the secondary outcome. The design creates awareness and establishes the identity of the campaign. The colour pallet is organic natural colour palette fostering an inviting and calming feel for the event. The illustrations are soft and relaxed, interacting with the type to create movement and delicacy, solidifying the meaning of the meditation class. The font is an elegant serif font pairing with illustrations and colour palette to create a strong sense of relaxation.

Just Breathe - Poster Series

The poster series compliment each other through different colour pallets and illustrations that all connect to the overall theme of the campaign. It explores how the various illustrations can be manipulated and morphed around the typeface.

Just Breathe - Journal Spread

This design spread showcases the integration of breath work exercises within the journal. This design placement not only adds a practical dimension but also breaks up the journal’s content, making it physically engaging. Readers can actively practice breath work and yoga exercises, offering them a means to reduce stress and enhance their focus. The illustrations bleed over both pages establishing a hierarchy and dominant presence. This design approach ensures a playful and inviting experience, engaging the viewer in these exercises in an accessible and enjoyable manner.

Just Breathe - Journal Spread

This design spread, part of the primary journal outcome, showcases how the right and left brain motivation techniques interact with each other. There is a section for individuals to write their goals in a systematic and logical manner targeting the left side of the brain. The playful colour pallet, bold San Serif heading and playful illustrations visually interact with this exercise, targeting the right side of the brain. Overall the elements work in conjunction with each other to engage the reader visually and physically.

Just Breathe - Additional applications

This design forms part my secondary outcome. It comprises a tote bag and water bottle that students receive following the meditation event, which also includes the journal. An olive green and beige colour palette is consistently applied across all campaign elements to underscore the themes of health and wellness. The designs are intentionally minimalist and gentle in appearance, with the aim of alleviating stress and actively engaging individuals both visually and physically.

The design is printed onto a textured canvas white bag and reusable & recyclable water bottle.
