Raising Awareness through Architecture

Following themes of grief and renewal, this hospital is a memorial space for the victims of the 1982 Sabra & Shatila Massacre, as well as an escape from the regular mundane hospital environment for patients.

Bringing awareness to the injustice that took place during the massacre (and ongoing injustice today, with the perpetrators yet to be held accountable) through the scale of the building, honouring victims through the sentimental and cultural use of individual gold plaques, and cultivating a sense of community and connection through the central zoning of the hospital was my attempt in conveying grief and renewal through architecture.
