I enjoy learning what, why, and how things look and feel good.
I’m a Filipino-Chinese graphic designer and artist that likes to rationalise and articulate my creative decisions; solving one creative problem at a time. I self-studied painting the past 4 years and have since attempted to incorporate that knowledge into graphic design. Ultimately, I strive to be a great storyteller and communicator.
“DON’T PANIC!” board game
“DON’T PANIC!” is a campaign designed around the newly age term “Doomerism”; the increasing extreme pessimism on the future. The board game is designed for the user to directly interact with the same problems the current youth face: the lack of autonomy; the bleak outlook on tomorrow; and plenty of uncertainties.
“DON’T PANIC!” board game cards
The card set works in tandem with the board game. These are “event cards” based on real incidents that affect the entire game. Examples include the recent COVID pandemic.
“DON’T PANIC!” posters
The “DON’T PANIC!” series of posters are meant to convey the hypocrisy and messaging thrown to younger generations. Particularly, it is when older generations make decisions that directly harm the future while telling younger people to not panic. For example, climate change. It consists of cartoons paired with real headlines and articles of the current societal landscape.
Design Research Kit
My design research kit presents itself as an “emotional survey” sent from an organisation body. It takes inspiration from real government surveys and the imagined practicality required. The idea is to use this alternate apocalyptic future as a method of investigating current problems.
Design Research Kit contents
The contents of my DRK showcases my goals of further integrating my two skill sets of designing and drawing. This resulted in an intended juxtaposition of tone between the art and subject matter. The attempt at reassurement, and its subsequent failure at doing so, is part of the narrative.
Design Research Kit video
The video that allowed for a setting in which the narrative comes from.
In the spirit of reconciliation Monash University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
