Hi! I’m Simeon, an industrial designer and software developer who thrives at the intersection of creativity and technical expertise. My passion is creating designs that are functional and visually appealing. I constantly seek ways to innovate and improve user experiences through technology. Staying up-to-date with trends, I explore how new tools can solve real-world problems. My featured project, a smart home system for the elderly, combines coding, building, and electronics to deliver intuitive, user-centred solutions.

Outstanding Project: Creative Interactions and Solutions

LEO

Inspired by traditional radios, LEO is a smart home system designed to leverage familiar, tactile interactions, ensuring ease of use for older adults.

Modules

LEO comes with a variety of modules, each with an intuitive interface dedicated to separate functions. This limits the cognitive load for the user when engaging with the system. The starter pack comes with a speaker, phone and thermostat module.

Interface

The interface of the module was user tested and refined to ensure its ease of use for older adults.

Integration

The modules integrate with LEO Home Centre, a dashboard that updates based on user input to them.

Storyboard

Users are guided through the setup process by a service provider. The setup is tailored to the user's needs. The users are also given training and assistance to ensure a comfortable and accessible experience.

LEO Home Centre

The dashboard UI emphasises readability by grouping each module into simple information ‘cards’. Accessibility features, such as high contrast and large text, make the interface more user-friendly for the elderly.
