Set within the historically traumatic grounds of Jacksons Hill Sunbury, this project reimagines Building N5, as a combined weather station and broadcast hub through a reuse approach. The design supports observation, education, and community connection, shaped by the routines of Wally, an elderly weather observer who has long cared for the site. The intervention aims to soften the weight of the site’s past by introducing operability, openness, and gentle forms of care, transforming a place once defined by control into one that supports curiosity, belonging, and renewal.

Entrance Perspective

A lively entrance welcomes visitors with a patterned path of coloured tiles leading you toward the precinct. The Welcome sign and vibrant mural mark the threshold, framed by lush greenery and the gentle movement of people weaving through the inviting landscape.

Wally's Office Perspective

Wally’s office glows softly by the curved bay window, an organised chaos of weather instruments, notes, and tools spread across the room. The moon peers through the transparent roof as cool night air drifts in, framing a quiet moment of observation and care.
