Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2025

This semester, Shantel examined architecture as a tool for supporting psychological recovery and social reintegration for individuals with schizophrenia re-entering society after psychiatric institutionalisation. Her project seeks to re-articulate the relationship between architecture, care, and autonomy through the design of a transitional mixed-use housing facility that provides short-term, specialised support. Situated in Abbotsford, it explores socially responsive urbanism, proposing architecture as both a building and a care system - prioritising empathy, agency, and relational recovery in its material, programmatic, and emotional legibility.
