Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2025

My name is Haruna Kimura and I am an intern architect in Australia, just finished my Masters program. Throughout my bachelor and masters study, I strongly believe that architecture is like a harmony where you try and find the best combinations between art, science and environment to brighten one's life. This can be deliver through the variety knowledge towards the many different categories including sustainability and ability to face to the needs of specific user groups. I hope that this page become the opportunities for me to express these knowledge and skills that I build throughout my student life ...

In-depth Perception

How can studying the individuals' reaction to their direct surroundings shape future architectural spaces and design decisions in developing a space that supports patient healing process, in an industry with non-standard approaches?

I was always questioning myself how each element are acting to touch one's feeling. These manipulations are often working in a psychologic way to your brain. Study shows that the mental health can cause by complicated mix of factors through your life. This causes that many of the scientific study cannot show academically. Question is, can you represent them through the architectural space and aesthetic elements help patient to express what they are facing?

Overall Space arrangement

The diagram shows the overall space arrangement and how the master plan will work for this project. Patients are often feeling the fears as usually mental health centre provides the same atmosphere as hospital where my focus was to provide art lighting space and communal waiting room to arrow them to interact with people, use the art space as one of the way to experience and use as treatment factors for later of their consultation.

Light Art Room

The light art room is the exhibit type room to engage with patients. The wall and ceilings are made out from timber frame with translucent fabric with controllable mechanic system that can control by your phone app. The light sources are coming from the back of the panel to illuminate the space, patients and other visitors can control the scale of the room and colour by themselves and Psychologist can find out their conditions based on their result.

Consultation Rooms

Consultation rooms are designed based on the research with colour theory and materials. it will divided into cool and warm tone, arranged to not disturb the lighting resources that patients can control during their consultation.
Although I did provide the interactive communal space, I introduced the 1st floor to be more private consultation room where it is connected to outside balcony and stuff room which can flexibly use depends on their patients' feeling.

Colour and Material Research

The diagrams shows the research result of colour theory and materials that I expressed throughout my project.

Plan and Section Drawing

The Section drawing cutting through the light art room and one of the waiting room to explore the idea of public space and changing the image of creating the fear while patients are waiting for their consultation.
