Water-Orb 2018
lightweight concrete composite, steel, laminated mirror, irrigation system and water
Ian Potter Sculpture Court Commission 2018
Location: Currently on display at 9 Ancora Imparo Way, Clayton Campus

Natasha Johns-Messenger’s practice is primarily concerned with altering ordinary ways of seeing. Through a range of perceptual and spatial devices, she seeks to heighten awareness and experience of the immediate environment. In Water-Orb, Johns-Messenger uses simple optical physics to open up a chasm between what we think we see and what we know. Taking an eye-like form, the work presents a dynamic body of water that appears to defy gravity as it simultaneously falls and flows.

Water-Orb was supported by MUMA Contemporaries as the fourth Ian Potter Sculpture Court Commission, established to provide opportunities for artists to explore new models of practice, thinking and research into public sculpture and architectural practice.
