Wetting, Wilds and Mirrors

Join us for a day-long symposium convened by the Queer Creative Practices Research Cluster at Monash Art Design and Architecture.

The symposium turns to Phasmahammer’s current exhibition at MUMA, Syncretic Wilds, as a springboard for the discussion, screening and new performance of works that engage and complicate queer embodiment, histories and aesthetics. Contributors to this symposium are artists who work with archives, the legacies of queer figures, and performance to generate work where gender and sexuality are temporally, relationally and sensorially disoriented.

The symposium will run throughout the day and conclude with Jeannine Tang's keynote, presented as the 2026 Margaret Plant Art History Lecture by Monash University's Fine Art Department in partnership with Monash University Museum of Art. Jeannine’s lecture will be addressing trans art history, performance and representation in art since 2000 based on her forthcoming publication by Duke University Press.
