Ovarian Biology

Welcome to the Hutt Lab

Our laboratory is focussed on understanding how egg number and quality are regulated, with the goal of improving female fertility.

We're part of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, and a member of the Development & Stem Cells Program and the
Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology.

Our research

Females are born with a stockpile of oocytes, and this supply is progressively depleted throughout life due to the natural ageing process. Oocytes may also become prematurely depleted following exposure to DNA damaging anticancer treatments and infection, leading to loss of fertility and early menopause. We are working to understand the regulation of oocyte number and quality in order to improve the health and fertility of women during ageing and following anti-cancer treatment or infection.
