Constructive Approaches to Systems Neuroscience

Welcome to the Shimaoka Lab

Our lab reconstructs brain dynamics to understand the emergence of neural computation.

We're part of the Neuroscience Program,
and the Department of Physiology.

Our research

Our group aims to reconstruct brain dynamics at the system level in order to understand their involvement in sensory processing, cognition and consciousness. For this purpose, we deploy an all-optical interrogation system combining widefield imaging and optogenetics, together with parallel time-series analysis and dynamical systems modelling of the brain. Through these activities, we strive to discover causal substrates of brain functions.
