Join Smyth lab
Welcome to the Smyth Laboratory. We think that the kidney is the most amazing, fascinating organ in the body. Inherited and acquired kidney disease is a significant burden on the health system and it exacts a serious toll on the families it affects. By better understanding kidney development and cell homeostasis in the adult organ, our group is exploring how these diseases arise and how they might be prevented. We’d be delighted to hear from anyone with an interest in advancing these goals – whether you’d like to join the lab as a student or post doc or if you are interested in investing, donating or partnering with us to support our work. Feel free to contact Professor Smyth with any queries.
Clinical partners
We are proud members of Kidgen – a nationwide network of >50 nephrologists, clinical geneticists, genetic counsellors, diagnostics experts and research scientists who aim to provide patients with inherited kidney disease with a diagnosis for their condition. As a research group, we seek to advance these efforts by identifying and characterising new causative gene mutations in patients.
Selected funding groups
We gratefully acknowledge the funding given to our lab by the NHMRC.
