Widdop Laboratory

Integrative Cardiovascular
Pharmacology

Welcome to the Widdop Lab

Our group is investigating mechanisms that reverse hypertensive heart disease and adverse organ remodelling due to extracellular matrix build up (for example, fibrosis) associated with cardiovascular disease.

We're part of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, and a member of the Cardiovascular Disease , Metabolism, Diabetes & Obesity and Neuroscience Programs, and the Department of Pharmacology.

Our research

The renin angiotensin system is one of the major hormonal systems regulating blood pressure and general cardiovascular status. Increased activity of the renin angiotensin system is likely to contribute to a range of cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, heart failure, atherosclerosis and stroke.
