PolyFeed: Enhancing feedback literacy and dialogic feedback using feedback analytics

Feedback is a collaborative process that requires ongoing commitment and dialogue between learners and educators. Central to this process is feedback literacy—learners must be equipped to interpret and apply feedback to enhance their learning, while educators must be able to design and facilitate feedback that encourages feedback uptake and skill development. Despite its importance, learner engagement with feedback remains poorly understood, making it challenging to support learners in using feedback effectively and to help educators refine their teaching strategies.

To address this gap, we propose the use of feedback analytics to capture, analyse, and visualise data-driven insights into how students interact with feedback. PolyFeed (https://www.polyfeed.com.au/) is the first feedback analytics system built on principles of effective feedback. It aims to scaffold feedback literacy and facilitate two-way feedback. Developed through a design-thinking approach, PolyFeed has involved over 1,800 learners and 300 educators in iterative consultations and testing. It has been successfully piloted in large undergraduate and postgraduate units at Monash University, reaching more than 1,500 students.

The system is also being introduced at the University of Warwick and the University of Papua New Guinea. PolyFeed is supported by funding from Monash Education Academy (The Pitch), Monash Warwick Alliance (the Education Activation Fund), and the Australia Awards (Higher Education Partnership Grant).
