Emily Archer

Emily graduated from Monash in 2011, worked for a few years in Melbourne, then decided she wanted to work overseas. Emily made the move to London for the career opportunities – and it paid off, as she now works as a legal counsel at the Royal Bank of Scotland.

We asked Emily what Monash graduates can do to increase their chances of finding a job in London.

“My area of expertise is in law, so I encourage you to specialise in an area. For me it was law – and the London market appears to value niche expertise rather than broad experience. Check whether your area requires you to be UK-qualified, and if so, sit the QLTS exams before you move. Also, use your LinkedIn network to talk to people and get advice, say yes to anyone who might be offering assistance, attend events, and join groups.”

Emily completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws at Monash.
