Goods Shed No five was once the most used shed on the Melbourne Yarra River waterfront. The site N5 cargo shed has fallen into a free space since 1975. It is a valuable place with plenty of historical artefacts.
Unfortunately, they are being forgotten under the prospectus development in Melbourne City.

The N5 cargo shed sits between Yarra River and Docklands highway. When I pass through the highway, it's full of stress and noise, and the cars keep pushing me to walk fast. People walk past the site with a purpose, sending delivery, exercising, or transiting locations. Despite the site having an excellent geographical advantage, these factors affect our perception of the site's image, it is busy and forgotten. The role of architecture is important in affecting the human perception of a site and society. This architecture is corporate, using the idea of ``Psychogeography'' (quote from The intersection of psychology and geography), it is an act of activism and a revelation of historical narrative and social ideology. It directs people to Walk purposelessly and reveals the unrevealed parts.

Inspired by the precedent Amsterdam orphanage, and given the site’s mission and seafarers church, it has cooperative charity work in its long history. This architecture heavily focuses on the use of landscaping, colour therapy and the psychological impact of shapes on humans. For instance, the use of a Circle implies community and wholeness.
In summary, this architecture is obliged to slow down the passengers and provoke them to discover the unrevealed areas of this site. Let them walk unconditionally, explore, and realise the beauty of the ordinary, according to (WHO) Healing gardens or walks in nature can also serve as prevention against diseases; it's a benefit to humans mentally and physically.

Epiphany In The Walk

Goods Shed No five was once the most used shed on the Melbourne Yarra River waterfront. The site N5 cargo shed has fallen into a free space since 1975. It is a valuable place with plenty of historical artefacts.
Unfortunately, they are being forgotten under the prospectus development in Melbourne City.

Epiphany In The Walk

The architecture is built with four main ramps and two underground tunnels. They are interconnected with four unrevealed areas: the mission's backyard and seafarers, the church's dome activities room, the cargo shed and Jim Styne Bridge. They are merged with the designed landscape and guide people to reveal the unrevealed heritage. Each track has its colour to form different feelings, for instance, bliss, acknowledgment, love, and peace.

Materiality

Materiality has a direct influence on the overall sense of the environment. Materials have the ability to affect the sound, environment, increase/decrease comfort. With this in mind, the form in which the material becomes a part of will also determine the power of its placement. However, the project is mainly formed by these 9 elements, to create the different sensation of transition and Archie be healness.

The Intersection of Circulation, The Story of Walking

The two tunnels focus on human sensation and guide people from the hidden spaces to the prayer room of the
shed. It heavily focuses on material design to give various feelings at different moments. The beginning of the
two tunnels is walled with timber to provide a peaceful, warm feeling as a buffer from the stressful highway.
When it is closer to the cargo shed, the material is changed to a stone wall to give a historical feeling to the
visitors.

Tunnel one starts at the garden of the mission of seafarers. It gives the sense of and endless, consistent shadow, creating a smooth and continuous spatial experience. It has a therapeutic value to it as well. The consistent circle panels, each perforated, are a symbolisation of wholesome. Besides, it is walled with the existing roller shutter door of the shed, so people have a close exploration of the scar of the historical development. When people step on the shed, they can continue walking, or they can walk to the Yarra River, as two tunnels are merged inside the shed.

Tunnel two starts from the dome. It gives a more open feel to the visitors and gives them a healing moment
under the embracement of the healing garden. once people walk down the 3.5 meters, they can choose to go pray room, to seek healing and silent moments or to keep exploring the shed.

The Intersection of Tunnels

At the intersection of tunnels inside the cargo shed, people can look closely at the structure and rusty red shutter door. A void is created for people to interact with the foundation piles. The angled common area - the healing garden enhances the human perception of the Yarra.

Key Moments

A shared healing garden is built across all the levels of the building. They are planted with columnar maple trees. Once it is Autumn, the leaves will turn red to give the residents a sense of power.
The moment of mutual living, The residents have their suite with sharing kitchen, healing garden and laundry areas.

All private suites face the shed and the Yarra, it keeps the existence of the forgotten history. Besides, the sharing loft idea increases the sense of togetherness and helping each other.
The prayer room was built under a pond with a circle opening base, circular shadow with a water pattern will be cast on the ground when people pray. An extruded skylight is created for exclusive natural light to represent the purification of the soul.
