Monash Art, Design and Architecture Student Exhibition 2022

Mitchell Grant

This final project engages with ideas that I have developed a deep interest for over the course of my undergraduate degree of reuse, spatial arrangement and material and tectonic expression.

Through the lens of systems identified earlier in the semester, we were tasked with designing part of an architecture school, with the total facilities being shared amongst other projects, each confined to 2 floors of the Lonsdale St Telstra exchange building.

Wood Marsh Architecture Prize - Amount $25,000

The Wood Marsh Award supports a student to thrive in their Master's Degree, and will be awarded to one student annually based on a holistic assessment of their performance.

Best in Studio: 'Spencer 2 Spring: AWOL'

Most outstanding design project in the studio 'Spencer 2 Spring: AWOL,' in the Bachelor of Architectural Design

Lecture Theatre

The lecture theatre is being set-up for a presentation, the corrugated iron doors have been opened for the occupation of the perimeter as well as the interior of the lecture theatre. Part of the archive has been repurposed to partition the space, as well as provide a plinth for the refreshments.

Classroom

The studio space is occupied outside of class time, with some books from a previous class being left for passing-by students. The view across the archive shows a silhouette of a resident in one of the apartments, and some pot plants occupying the stairway.

Apartment

Within the apartment, we can see how without clear partitions, there are still clear delineations of space through change in floor level. This change can be absorbed into any of the four occupants for extra floor space. Or also, as an impromptu table for small coffee dates.
