In studying architecture, I find most fascinating how people perceive physical space not just as a room, but rather a dialogue of space, time, sound, volume and experience (among other factors). I believe that physical space can facilitate experiences which are evoking and special. I aim to design so that social relations in buildings are not forced, but rather calculated and implemented so that occupants feel easy and grounded. This, I have learnt, isn't specific to homes, and I believe that any building type must be of a welcoming layout and design. With my latest project, I am learning that one strategy that cn be used to design in such a way, is by expanding design briefs, and trying to make homes, schools, and offices co exist.

Project Section: Eventful Intersection

This project joins together two building types: dwellings and schools.
Three houses and an architecture school are designed to coexist on the 5th floor of the Telstra exchange building, Melbourne CBD. Learnings from an earlier study of systems in the city, are used as a tool to help design this facility. Walking through the Melbourne CBD, we studied building elements to understand the system and/or concept behind them. We then reimagined these in our design. In my system, named Eventful Intersection, I use the intersection of different parties to host the main components and spaces of my brief. These are: Intersection of slabs, structural grid, circulation and program.
