The Hands-On winery seeks not to intervene, but rather integrate with the existing conditions of the Mt Buffalo site. A lightweight timber shed construction, the proposal appears to float above the landscape. Clad in polycarbonate sheeting of varying transparency, the building fades in contrast with the dense forest beyond. As visitors approach, curved brick walls begin to reveal out of the land highlighting its organic slope. As a winery this proposal seeks to impart an unfiltered terroir – as an architectural intervention, it seeks to recontextualise its environment bestowing users with an appreciation for Victoria’s unique Alpine region.
